In the Land of The Head Hunters, film by Edward S. Curtis, 1914, Cinema-concert by Rodolphe Burger

11 July 2015, Théâtre Antique

This recently restored work, bordering on anthropological documentary, is a Native American version of Romeo and Juliet: Motana falls in love with the daughter of a rival tribe’s chief, but she is betrothed to a wicked sorcerer. Curtis goal was to lay low the stereotypes of Native Americans perpetuated by cinema. Rodolphe Burger score, based on rock and Native American music, makes the spellbinding dance of these time-travelling ghosts even more beautiful.
A film distributed by Capricci.
