Takes up sculpture at age fifteen and after studying mathematics, moves to Paris in 1981. Studies sculpture at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts. Since 1987, numerous personal and group exhibitions in Paris, Brussels, Hamburg, Amsterdam, Buenos Aires and elsewhere. From the first series of Unstable Sculptures in 1985 and the Furtive Sculptures installation in the Buenos Aires subway in 1988, his work has been marked by approaches to the question of identity. In the series The Other, The Same, photography makes its first appearance, being used to evoke a form of otherness that generates both vulnerability and meaning. One of his works, presented as part of his 2002 exhibition at the Maison de l’Amérique Latine in Paris, led him to take an interest in the possibilities of the identikit portrait.
Leandro Berra presented his work at the Rencontres d’Arles:
In 2005 : “Composite (self) portraits”
In 2007 : Madame la Présidente
In 2010 : Leandro Berra at the Atelier des Forges
