Erik Fens has a fulltime job in Teylers Museum in Haarlem. As long as he can remember, he is a collector. Since 1980 he works on The Encyclopaedia of The World, According to Fens, and The Encyclopaedia on The World of Collecting, Collectors And Collections (300 volumes).
The Encyclopaedia of the World according to Fens, (400 volumes) is subdivided in 11 themes: “the Human Body”, “the World of Women”, “the World of Children”, “the Animal World”, “the World of Plants”, “Religion”, “War and Death”, “Earth and Universe”, “Objects”, “Working Objects”, “Language”, and everything that inspires Fens. His exhibitions arise from material from his countless image-collections.
Erik Fens will present his work at the Rencontres d’Arles in 2014, taking part in the exhibition Small Universe at the Atelier de Chaudronnerie.
