Born on 18 May 1949 in Toulouse.
Louis Mesplé is a journalist, critic and artistic director. He has been head of photography at French daily Libération and for leading international festivals (Rencontres Internationales d’Arles, Rencontres Africaines de Bamako).
He has conceived many projects and done much artistic and editorial consultancy work on photography and its relationship with contemporary art and new technology.
The author of La photo contemporaine de 1945 à aujourd’hui (2007, Editions du Chêne) and latterly of Les 100 mots de la photo (Editions Bookstorming), Louis Mesplé now reports on photography and imagery related news in a blog, “On est là pour voir”, on the Rue89 website.
Louis Mesplé was nominator for the Discovery Award of the Rencontres d’Arles in 2009. He nominated Eric Rondepierre who presented his series of photos at the Grande Halle.
