Trisha Donnelly, Rencontres d’Arles 2010

Trisha Donnelly is among a generation of artists to have come of age over the past decade or so, whose practice seems, as John Miller has observed, to be rooted in the incommunicability and opacity of Bas Jan Ader. Often taking the form of gatherings of objects in various media, from assembled sculptures to drawings and photographs, Donnelly’s exhibitions tease the viewer with their intimations of meaning; orientation within these spaces is seldom straightforward, but is pregnant with possibility.
